Welcome to my garden

As the title says welcome to my gardening spot. Those of you who are old hands at gardening will notice straight off that the photo is of course not of a plant but is indeed of my gardening companion Kip .Kip is a six year old Fox terrier who enjoys being out in the garden when ever he can ,he is often joined by one of our three cats or my eldest daughters unruly eight month old Rotty ,who has no gardening manners at all and just digs holes where ever she can!
Enough of this I hear you cry what about the gardening? Well first I have to confess I'm not a very good gardener ,I never know the names of plants ,I don't spend anything like enough time in the garden and I often manage to kill plants! but maybe worst of all when I bought this house 5 years ago the previous owner had planted a lovely garden which I have until recently pretty much managed to neglect .So with these things confessed I am in earnest trying to make up for my past errors and hope that in keeping notes here I might be more diligent and that you gardening gurus out there might be able to offer me much needed advice.
Since as I said before I have on the whole neglected my garden the first thing I have installed to help me back on the right path is a worm farm, mine is the plastic variety and has been safely install under some large trees by my driveway and is now awaiting the arrival of the worms who are going to take up residence there ,I have purchased 1000 of the little critters they are tiger worms from a worm farm in Christchurch ,I could have bought them from a local worm farm but he did not deliver.
I do have a compost bin that I use to make compost but it really isn't enough for my garden so I have also bought a new composting system as well and i will tell you more about that when it arrives.
It is of course Autumn here in New Zealand so much of the work in the garden at the moment revolves around cleaning up which seems never ending ,however I am hoping to set out a new vegetable garden this year in an unused part of the garden that used to have a deck that was falling down and a horrible spa pool, with blood sweat and tears Dh and I ripped this all down and flattened the area out .since then I have done nothing to it ,it does get a good amount of sun and it is very sheltered so as I said it is time to start planning how I want this to look.well thats enough for now I think so take care for now.
